About the job

Google's infrastructure needs go far beyond server computers. As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future -- everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

You will be part of the team responsible for Google’s global energy portfolio, where you will work at the forefront of some of the most challenging energy and infrastructure policies and regulatory issues of the day.

As the Lead for our Energy Market Development team, you will work on energy-related policy, regulations and advocacy efforts throughout Europe. You will lead the assessment of new proposals regarding their impact on our data center energy supply and carbon-free energy programs, provide data-driven recommendations and ensure the execution of projects towards our policy objectives.

This is an external facing role, where you will interact with multiple stakeholders at the local, national and European level.

Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions that leverage Google’s cutting-edge technology, and tools that help developers build more sustainably. Customers in more than 200 countries and territories turn to Google Cloud as their trusted partner to enable growth and solve their most critical business problems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic evaluations of regulatory and policy environments in Europe at both the EU and national (with strong focus on the Nordic region) levels, regarding electricity industry trends, stakeholder interests and electricity institutional structures. Assess risks and opportunities for Google’s data center electricity supply portfolio.
  • Lead the development of strategic energy positions for Google’s electricity supply needs in established and new markets, design of regulatory and market engagement strategies and implementing tactics. Work cross-functionally on Google’s Global Infrastructure and Public Policy to develop policy and market positions and communicate to key constituencies.
  • Lead advocacy work through energy trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and other partners to advance Google’s strategic energy priorities. Draft internal energy positions and respond to external public consultation on energy.
  • Support energy supply negotiations, working with site and energy strategic negotiators.
