About the job

As Director, Economic Community and Workforce Development (WFD), you will combine your market and tech industry knowledge to support Google's infrastructure growth. You will build and execute economic development strategies, drive infrastructure labor, and workforce development programs, work with industry peers, and present strategies to executive leadership. You will advocate for Google and the data center industry, while identifying and addressing industry trends.

In this role, you will primarily lead the development of the company’s global economic development program for data centers. You will work closely with a network of internal stakeholders as well as strategic vendors to support the growth of Google’s products and services, and to provide the infrastructure that will help expand the company’s global reach. You will lead business discussions with the key stakeholders. Your knowledge of economic development, compliance, relationship and coalition building, policy and regulation, and company goals will position you to be an advocate for development and management of the global data center portfolio.

Additionally, you will embed community and workforce development best practices within a rapidly expanding organization, serving as a subject matter expert on WFD delivery, strategic community engagement, and labor market opportunities for data center communities. You will identify future talent resource needs and collaborate with local and regional organizations to bridge skills gaps, creating a sustainable workforce pipeline for the data center ecosystem. You will collaborate with education and training organizations to establish talent pathways, ensuring data center communities benefit from the digital economy.

Responsibilities

• Unlock new markets, reduce overall total cost of ownership, and improve community and stakeholder engagement.
• Support the development of content to broaden and amplify our messaging and planning around the data center lifecycle, and take a leading role in industry coalitions, legislative efforts, policy advancement, and mitigation of industry headwinds.
• Practice retail data center diplomacy, community by community,  listening sessions, meeting with local leads or grassroots organizers.
• Uncouple agitation from core grievance and create strategies that build community in both productive and challenging environments.
• Grow, develop, and manage a global community engagement team that includes Public Affairs, Workforce Development to drive in-market sentiment and optimize local market operating environments.
