About the job
Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services.
Google's network provides services to millions of Internet users around the world. Our metros are on the edge of our network where Google connects to its users. The Network Delivery Implementation team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. The team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s datacenters and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, the team is involved from site acquisition to construction and is accountable for what space and power is delivered. Once that infrastructure is delivered, the team is involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning. Once up, this team must ensure the network stays up, and is well positioned to turn up business growth-generating service at industry-leading intervals.
Responsibilities
- Drive the quantifiable analysis of measurements, or data and capacity forecast models for making networks more scalable, efficient, and deliver predictable user experience.
- Evaluate the current inefficiencies, complexities, and flaws in network systems, and propose designs, software, and processes to improve them.
- Develop software that improves the performance, safety, transparency, and manageability of network systems.
- Work with a mix of global core network engineering and software development to build software solutions and introduce technology which impactfully improve the Google network reliability and speed of deployment.
