Project Engineer - Netherlands

Position Overview
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Project Engineer to join our Central Europe team. This role will focus on managing and supporting the execution of warehouse engineering, within our temperature-controlled facilities. The ideal candidate has a strong background in refrigeration, warehouse logistics, material handling equipment, racking systems, facility construction, or operational process improvements and is eager to take ownership of projects from planning through execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Coordination (40%)
- Oversee day-to-day project activities, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Take care of providing workorders, work permits such as hot work, in coordination with the local QESH department.
- Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure smooth project implementation.
- Identify and address project risks, escalating issues when necessary.
- Ensures commissioning; of racking systems, conveyors, and other warehouse infrastructure and that project documentation is up-to-date before final handover to the maintenance department can take place.
Project Planning & Preparation (30%)
- Assist in defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Conduct site visits and assessments to gather requirements and identify potential constraints.
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards during planning.
- Evaluate warehouse layouts and recommend optimization solutions.
Stakeholder & Resource Management (20%)
- Collaborate with cross-functional project teams, including site teams, maintenance, IT, QESH, and operations, to align project objectives with business needs.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders on project progress, challenges, and adjustments.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, engineers, and contractors.
Process Improvement & Compliance (10%)
- Identify opportunities to improve warehouse infrastructure, storage efficiency, and operational workflow.
- Ensure all projects adhere to Americolds safety and quality standards.
- Participate in post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or a similar technical field.
- Around 3+ years of experience in refrigeration, warehouse engineering, racking installations, logistics facility construction, or material handling solutions.
- Hands-on experience managing technical or facility-related projects.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements in an industrial environment.
- Willingness to travel across the Netherlands to manage projects on site
- Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced operational setting.
