Position Overview

Due to retirement, the Forest Resources and Management Research Unit seeks a new leader by April 1st, 2026, or by agreement. The unit focuses on data collection and analysis to improve understanding of Swiss forests and develop scientifically based sustainable management solutions.

Responsibilities

1. Strategically, scientifically, and operationally manage around 80 international employees.
2. Represent the research unit internally and externally, maintaining contact with partners and stakeholders.
3. Advise the Directorate with expertise and lead national and international research initiatives.
4. Collaborate with authorities and organizations, supporting research-practice interfaces.
5. Coordinate and develop six research groups and manage individual projects.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates are at an advanced stage in their scientific careers with extensive leadership experience, a successful record in research funding and publications, and an established international network. They should be initiative-driven, communicative, and fluent in English and at least one Swiss national language, preferably German.
