She/he will work on the multi-dimensional (economic, social and ecological) assessment of fisheries and the production of Evidence-Based Fisheries Management Advice in a food systems context. She/he is expected to deal with all kinds of fisheries, but a major focus will be on small-scale, multispecies/multigear and data- and capacity-limited fisheries, particularly in developing countries.Key ResultsComprehensive technical and policy expertise to support the planning, development and implementation of divisional programmes, projects, products and services in accordance with divisional objectives and the FAO Strategic Framework.Key Functions Plans and leads components of multidisciplinary teams; leads and/or participates on Organization-wide, cross-divisional committees, project teams and working groups and/or provides specialized expertise in technical networks and/or international technical policy and standard setting bodies. Develops technical, analytical, monitoring and reporting frameworks, as well as related methodologies, tools, systems and databases, etc. to support the planning, implementation/delivery and monitoring of programmes of work, projects, products and/or services. Designs and conducts research, data collection, validation, analysis and/or reporting activities to support the development of technical standards, international instruments, innovative approaches and strategies, new tools, technologies, technical reports/publications and/or policy proposals, as well as the provision of technical/policy/ specialist/advice and expertise. Responds to country requests for technical and policy assistance, provides technical advice, assistance and solutions to Decentralized Offices as well as technical backstopping to field projects. Collaborates in, provides technical backstopping to, and ensures the quality/effectiveness of, capacity development and knowledge sharing activities within Member Nations such as policy support, organizational development and individual learning events including preparation of related information, learning materials and on-line tools. Promotes international cooperation/advocates best practices, supports increased policy dialogue and provides technical expertise at international/intergovernmental meetings. Participates in resource mobilization activities in accordance with the FAO Strategic Framework.Specific Functions Contributes to the development and application of approaches, methods and user-friendly tools and processes for integrated multi-dimensional evidence-based assessment and production of management advice for data- and capacity-limited fisheries. Contributes to the development, dissemination and application of approaches, methods and tools for the collection, management and analysis of fisheries-related data and information, with a focus on small-scale, multispecies/multigear and data- and capacity-limited fisheries. Provides technical and scientific support on evidence-based fisheries assessments and production of management advice to fisheries research and management institutions from FAO Member Nations and to Regional Fisheries Bodies and Arrangements, functioning as Technical Secretary of one of those under the responsibility of FAO. Provides technical and scientific support to design, implement and monitor systems for collection, management and analysis of fisheries-related data and information, including local and traditional knowledge, to national, regional and global institutions. Supports the development and delivery of the FAO Training Programme on Fisheries Data, Assessment and Advice to fisheries experts from Member Nations. Contributes to the analysis of the global state of stocks, including development of the global effort database, and to reporting on SDG indicator 14.4.1: Proportion of fish stocks within biologically sustainable levels; supports the development and use of adequate database systems to document and record the regular analyses of these elements.
