Freelance/Contract Senior Data Scientist ML Engineer (Brussels-Based, Hybrid 12-Month Contract)
We are currently seeking an experienced and driven Senior Data Scientist ML Engineer (Freelance/Contract) to join our growing Data & AI team in Brussels, Belgium. This is a 12-month contract position with a strong likelihood of extension, offering a hybrid working arrangement2 days per week on-site in Brussels and remote flexibility the rest of the time.
You will work on cutting-edge machine learning projects across various industries, helping to build impactful, data-driven solutions in collaboration with a cross-functional team of experts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and algorithms
- Analyze large, complex datasets to identify patterns and generate insights
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and processing
- Translate business needs into effective ML-driven technical solutions
- Stay current with industry trends in AI and machine learning
- Contribute to team capabilities through knowledge sharing and best practice development
Requirements:
- Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in data science or machine learning roles
- Strong proficiency in Python or R, and familiarity with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Familiarity with Databricks is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Fluency in English, with professional proficiency in either French or Dutch (mandatory)
- Must be located in Belgium and available to work on-site in Brussels 2 days per week
- Work permit sponsorship is not available
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, Hive)
- Knowledge of MLOps practices and deployment tools
- Background in natural language processing (NLP) or computer vision
- Contributions to open-source projects or published academic work
