The instrument PF2 at the ILL is the world''s mostintense source of ultracold and very cold neutrons, deliveringneutrons via 4 beam ports to several experiments operating inparallel. The PF2 instrument is operated by the ILL''s Nuclear andParticle Physics (NPP) group, which comprises about 20 highlymotivated scientists and technicians. Complementing thehigh-density UCN source SuperSUN, PF2 offers unique opportunitiesfor carrying out experiments in low-energy particle physics andgravitational research. The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situatedin Grenoble, France, is Europe''s leading research facility forfundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightestneutron source in the world, reliably delivering intense neutronbeams to 43 unique scientific instruments. Every year, we host over2000 visits by scientists, who come to the Institute to carry outworld-class research in condensed matter physics, crystallography,soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. Fundedprimarily by its three founder members: France, Germany and theUnited Kingdom, the ILL has also signed scientific collaborationagreements with 10 other European countries. Your tasks - Providetechnical support to the Instrument Scientists of the NPP group insetting up experiments at the beam lines of the instrument PF2 andother instruments of the NPP group - Service and maintainPF2-specific installations - Provide assistance and technicaladvice during the setting-up of user experiments - Manufacture andmachine support structures and mechanical adapters on demand -Manage the stock of spare parts, consumables, UCN equipment andvacuum components on PF2 - Manage the PF2 mechanical workshop. Yourprofile - You have a Level 4/5 qualification (HNC/HND, foundationdegree or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, precisionmechanics or equivalent. - You have a significant amount ofexperience (at least 5 years) working as a multi-skilled machinetool technician/operator. - You have experience designing,machining and operating precision mechanical assemblies. -Experience with vacuum techniques would be an asset. - You have amethodical and disciplined approach to your work and are happy towork in an international team.
