Our laboratory studies the mechanisms of pathogenesis of neuromuscular disorders with a primary focus on Duchenne Muscular dystrophy (DMD). In addition, we are developing pertinent therapeutic strategy using translational research, an emerging field which can be summarized as understanding the cause of a disease and learning from it in order to develop innovative therapeutic strategies.
Our long-term projects focus on RNA and DNA editing and gene transfer as therapies for neuromuscular disorders, but they will also include more fundamental research on muscle function. In particular, our lab uses the newest technologies, such as virus-mediated delivery of antisense sequence (AAV.U7) and the CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing tool.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist who is energetic and highly motivated to join our dynamic team. In particular, we are looking for someone with experience in molecular biology (qPCR, IF, WB). Experience in mouse injection, dissection and mounting tissue is preferred. No background in gene therapy is required, however the person should have a high interest in human genetics and diseases and should be eager to learn and work on the bench in an semi-independent manner. Finally, our team relies on good teamwork and therefore, the candidate should be a good communicator and team player.
Our institute TaRGeT laboratory is based in Nantes Universit, at the 4th and 5th floors of Nantes Biotech/Institut de Recherche en Sant 2 (IRS2)" building. UMR 1089 (before known as U649) is an internationally recognized expert in the field of gene therapy using viral vectors, in particular in Adeno-Associated Virus-derived vectors (AAV). It is composed in 6 groups and 3 core facilities working together, closely helped by a quality management support (TaRGeT - UMR1089 - Translational Research in Gene Therapy). The lab has put together a large number of scientific and technological skilled expertise to advance AAV gene therapy products to the clinic among which:
-vector design and engineering,
-vector preclinical evaluation in neuromuscular,
-retinal diseases,
-vector immunogenicity,
-and vector large scale bioproduction.
The institute located in Nantes is the capital city of the Pays de la Loire region and the dpartement of Loire-Atlantique. It is located on the estuary of the Loire, the Erdre and the Svre Rivers, about 50 km from the Atlantic Ocean. In 2004, Time magazine described Nantes as the most liveable city in Europe.
