Mission
As Head of BESS for Spain, you will be responsible for defining and executing the energy storage strategy, ensuring that battery storage becomes a key enabler for the company''s renewable energy growth. This role requires a strategic and transversal business vision, integrating technical, regulatory, commercial, and financial perspectives to accelerate the adoption of BESS solutions. You will act as a key driver in positioning BESS as a competitive advantage within the organization, enhancing portfolio value and market differentiation.
Job Requirements
Strategic Leadership: Define and implement the energy storage strategy for Spain, ensuring full alignment with the companys global vision and leveraging BESS as a growth accelerator.
Business Model Development: Structure the business model for battery storage, identifying commercial opportunities, financial risks, and innovative revenue streams.
Regulatory Market Engagement:
- Support the Country Manager in advocating for a favorable BESS regulatory framework in Spain, engaging with industry bodies and policymakers.
Portfolio Transformation Hybridization:
- Integrate BESS into existing and new solar projects to enhance flexibility, profitability, and market competitiveness.
- Secure new interconnection capacity (both injection and load) for stand-alone BESS projects.
- Identify and execute MA opportunities for both stand-alone and co-located storage projects.
- Project Execution Lifecycle Ownership: Lead projects from feasibility through COD and into the operations phase, ensuring technical robustness, commercial viability, and regulatory compliance.
Multifunctional Leadership:
- Build and lead a high-performing cross-functional team, integrating technical, development, commercial, and financial expertise to accelerate storage deployment.
- Grid Technical Integration: Work closely with engineering teams to define technical specifications, optimize grid integration, and establish partnerships with battery manufacturers.
- Financial Structuring Risk Management: Oversee financial modeling of storage projects, including IRR analysis, cash flow forecasting, and investment planning.
Public Tenders Incentives:
- Lead efforts to participate in upcoming capacity payments tenders.
- Secure subsidies from local and EU authorities to support the financial viability of storage projects.
- Commercial Innovation: Support the Commercial Team in developing high-value-added storage solutions for customers, enhancing the companys competitive positioning.Experience: Over 10 years of experience in renewable energy, energy storage, or power markets, with a strong track record in developing, structuring, and delivering large-scale energy storage projects.
Profile Required
- Experience: Over 10 years of experience in renewable energy, energy storage, or power markets, with a strong track record in developing, structuring, and delivering large-scale energy storage projects.
- Education Certifications: Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering (Electrical, Industrial, Energy, or similar), Business Administration, Economics, or a related field. Additional specialization (MBA, Master in Renewable Energy, Energy Storage, or Grid Management) is highly valued.
Hard Skills
- Energy Storage Technologies: In-depth knowledge of BESS architectures, hybridization strategies, battery chemistry (Li-ion, LFP, flow batteries, etc.), and degradation modeling.
- Grid Integration Regulatory Framework:
- Understanding of grid connection procedures, capacity auctions, and interconnection regulations in Spain.
- Knowledge of capacity payments, ancillary services, and energy arbitrage in energy markets.
