R&D Silicon Photonics Materials Expert

Work with a leading innovator in the field of photonics, constantly pushing the boundaries of light-based technologies. We''re seeking a highly skilled and motivated R&D Engineer with expertise in novel materials to join their Silicon Photonics team.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the development and optimization of fabrication processes for next-generation Silicon Photonics components, utilizing specialized materials like Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3), Barium Titanate (BaTiO3), organic materials, and Silicon Germanium (SiGe).
- Collaborate closely with design, fabrication, and process engineering teams to ensure seamless implementation and refinement of manufacturing processes, guaranteeing high-yield and consistent production of photonic devices.
- Conduct experiments and characterize materials and devices to gain a deep understanding of their optical and electrical properties, including electro-optic coefficients, modulation bandwidth, signal-to-noise ratio, and responsivity (particularly for Ge APDs).
- Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate Silicon Photonics components into complex systems, evaluating their performance in real-world applications.
- Stay at the forefront of advancements in materials science and manufacturing technologies by conducting literature reviews and actively seeking new insights to drive innovation and improve the performance of our Silicon Photonics components.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Master''s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Photonics, or a related field.
- Strong background in materials science, with expertise in one or more of the following materials: Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3), Barium Titanate (BaTiO3), PZT, Silicon Germanium (SiGe), III-V semiconductors, or organic materials. Alternatively, strong knowledge of related processes for Ge APDs, integrated SiGe photodetectors, integrated PD or APD electro-optic modulators, or multi-wavelength sources is required.
- Basic understanding of Silicon Photonics device concepts is a plus.
