We are seeking bold,visionary, and entrepreneurial leaders to become the Heads of twostrategic Research & Development Units, each dedicated todriving applied AI innovation in the areas of Next Gen Pilot &Training in multi domain Operation and AI for Software DevelopmentLife cycle. Deadline: August 15th2025, 11:59 PM CEST About AI4I-Leonardo Joint Lab The AI4I-LeonardoJoint Lab represents a unique, high-impact partnership model thatbridges cutting-edge research with real-world industrialchallenges. Funded by both long-term national programs andsignificant private investment from LEONARDO, the lab integratesAI4Is expertise in AI innovation with LEONARDOs leadership andvision in advanced industrial applications and solutions. The labwill initially consist of two focused R&D Units: 1. Next GenPilot & Training in multi domain Operation dedicated topushing the boundaries of AI enabling technologies for the Pilotoperations of tomorrow. Next-generation aircraft will requirenon-traditional solutions for pilot-aircraft interaction,addressing both the operational needs of pilots and the pilottraining process. Advanced AI-enabled technologies has thepotential to revolutionize current solutions to supporting theperformance of future products and the competitiveness of thenational aeronautical industry. Research activities will focus onthe exploration of cutting-edge AI-enabled solutions to support newparadigms of future aircraft, characterized by high levels offlight and mission autonomy and human machine collaboration both inthe same air domain (e.g. Crew-Uncrewed Teaming) and acrossmultiple domains. Solution with a wide spectrum of application evenoutside the aerospace domain. 2. AI for Software Development Lifecycle focused on leveraging AI to revolutionize the way softwareis designed, developed, tested, and maintained. This unit willexplore the integration of AI tools and techniquessuch as largelanguage models, code generation systems, automated testingframeworks, and anomaly detection algorithmsthroughout the entireSDLC. The goal is to increase development speed, improve codequality, reduce human error, and enable predictive maintenance. Keyuse cases, to be prioritized during the project, also based on theindustry needs, include AI-assisted coding, intelligent requirementanalysis, automated bug detection and resolution, continuousintegration optimization, and AI-driven documentation. Each unitwill be at the frontier between fundamental AI methodologies andtheir rapid, scalable deployment in industrial environments. Thegoal: create high-impact, market-ready solutions while fosteringlong-term technological leadership. Your Role: Head of R&D UnitAs Head of an R&D Unit, you will: - Shape and lead your Unitsstrategic vision, aligned with both AI4I and LEONARDOs innovationroadmaps. - Build, inspire, and manage multidisciplinary teams oftop AI scientists, engineers, and technologists. - Deliverhigh-value AI solutions that directly impact products, processes,and services. - Act as the critical interface between researchexcellence and industrial deployment. You will not only manageresearchyou will oversee the entire R&D lifecycle, ensuring atangible return on innovation. Qualifications we are looking for We seek leaderswith: - Proven expertise in AI methods or their industrialapplications (deep learning, control systems, optimization,robotics, etc.). - Experience managing complex, multidisciplinaryR&D projects. - Preferably, experience in sectors such asmanufacturing, aerospace, human-machine interfaces, softwaredevelopment.
