We are seeking a full-time Backend Lead Engineer(Cloud). In this role you will be responsible for designing anddeveloping complex cloud applications shaping Garmin marine cloudtechnology stack to deliver high-quality products to customers.What youll do: - Exemplify Garmins Mission, Vision, Values andlead by example in order to proactively work to improve Garminimage and culture. - Cultivate a strong customer service culture inyour function. - Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus onthe right priorities. - Lead the architecture, design, andimplementation of complex cloud-based applications and services. -Propose corrective actions, offering comments, suggestions foralternative solutions, process improvements, and estimating levelof effort. Continuously evaluate and improve architecture andperformance to meet evolving business needs. - Provide technicalguidance and mentorship to team members. Collaborate effectivelywith other Garmin associates through participation in peer codereviews, providing comments and suggestions. - Promote adherence tobest practices, coding standards, and development methodologies. -Design and develop robust, scalable, and secure cloud solutionsusing Java and related technologies. - Work with cloud platformssuch as Azure and AWS to deploy and manage applications. - Deliverhigh-quality software solutions by promoting test-drivendevelopment (TDD) practices. Advocate for and implement automatedtesting strategies to improve reliability and efficiency. -Optimize system performance and ensure high availability. Otherresponsibilities: - Stay updated on emerging technologies andtrends in cloud computing and Java development. - Champion amindset of continuous learning and improvement through hands-onexperimentation and prototyping. - Propose and implement strategiesto enhance system efficiency and development processes. - Workclosely with software project leaders to align technical solutionswith business goals and deliverables. - Partner with DevOps and QAteams to streamline deployment pipelines and testing processes. -Engage with other technical leaders to share knowledge and drivecross-team innovation. What youll need: - Bachelors Degree intechnical discipline or equivalent professional experience and aminimum of 8 years relevant experience or an equivalent combinationof education and relevant experience developing with Java andrelated frameworks such as Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Hibernate. -Proficiency in microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, andcontainerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). - Stronganalytical and problem-solving skills, ability to troubleshootissues and work independently on complex technical challenges. -Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and experiencewith platforms such as Azure or AWS. - Experience working withlarge datasets in relational and non-relational databases likeMySQL, PostgreSQL, Azure Cosmos DB. - Thorough understanding ofcomputing using complex data structures, complex algorithms, memorymanagement, multi-threading, design patterns and standardlibraries. - Experience working with any IDE (IntelliJ, VisualStudio, etc..), code management (GIT/ Gerrit), configurationmanagement systems and CI/CD processes (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jenkins,Ansible). - Strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonalcommunication skills. - Ability to work well with others acrossseveral locations world-wide in a highly collaborative environment.- Experience with agile SDLC methodologies and tools like AzureDevOps/JIRA/Confluence. - Experience with both Linux and Windowsenvironments. Bonus points if you have: - Additional experiencedeveloping software in other languages such as C#, NodeJS, RubyReact, Javascript. - Experience with GIS systems or spatialdatabases. - Experience in leading and managing technical teams. -Familiarity with marine environment technology, navigation anddevices.
