Finance Director
Finance Director
Based in Bruges, the Finance Director will work under the direct supervision of the Rector and in close coordination with the Treasurer. Assisted by a team of three staff members, the Finance Director will oversee the planning, determination, and execution of the Colleges budget in Bruges and Tirana.
The main tasks and responsibilities include:
- Ensure rigorous financial management and compliance with Belgian accounting standards, preparing accurate financial reports for stakeholders;
- Manage daily financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and procurement;
- Review and update internal financial procedures and policies for transparency and efficiency;
- Assist budget holders in budget preparation and implementation;
- Oversee income-generating initiatives like grants and donations, ensuring proper management and reporting;
- Act as the main contact for financial interactions with external stakeholders, including auditors and banks;
- Identify and mitigate financial risks with internal controls;
- Lead and develop the Finance Office team;
- Coordinate and lead audit processes, liaising with external auditors;
- Stay updated on financial regulations and ensure compliance;
- Provide budgetary advice to the Rector and prepare financial reports for decision-making bodies;
- Contribute to financial strategy development and implementation.
Profiel
The ideal candidate will have:
- A postgraduate degree in Management, Finance, Accounting, or similar, or extensive equivalent experience;
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in financial management, preferably in higher education or EU contexts;
- Excellent command of English/Dutch; French knowledge is a plus;
- Strong decision-making and communication skills;
- Familiarity with the College of Europe''s activities is advantageous;
- Digital literacy, including MS Office 365;
- Result-oriented, proactive, and team-oriented attitude;
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
