Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading international contractor on a major Data Centre project based in Milan. This is a senior-level, permanent position offering exceptional long-term career prospects and the opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of high-profile, technically complex builds.
** This is a Site based role and NOT a Design specific position**
Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical engineering function on-site, overseeing the design, coordination, and installation of HVAC, piping, and ducting systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and site teams.
- Manage and coordinate mechanical subcontractors and suppliers to ensure alignment with project timelines, budget, and quality expectations.
- Review and approve detailed mechanical designs, technical submittals, and method statements.
- Drive project progress by leading coordination meetings and resolving design or installation issues proactively.
- Ensure full compliance with design specifications, industry regulations, and safety standards through rigorous quality assurance processes.
- Oversee mechanical commissioning and system handover in collaboration with commissioning teams and client representatives.
- Contribute to procurement strategy, material selection, and long-lead item management.
- Act as the primary point of contact for mechanical engineering matters, reporting to the Project Manager and interfacing with client teams as required.
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in large-scale construction projects, ideally within the Data Centre, Pharmaceutical, or Industrial sectors.
- Proven track record of managing mechanical packages from concept through to commissioning.
- Deep understanding of mechanical systems design, building services integration, and site-based delivery.
- Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Fluent in English; Italian is an advantage but not essential.
- Willingness to be based on-site in Milan for the duration of the project.
