As our Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining the data backbone of our platform - ensuring scalable, secure, and efficient data flows that power decisions, insights, and innovation across New Black.

About Your Role
As a Data Engineer at New Black, youll be at the core of our technical infrastructure - implementing and optimizing data pipelines that move and transform data across our platform. Youll work with technologies like Spark, PySpark, Databricks, and Azure Data Services to build flows that support everything from business intelligence and reporting to real-time analytics and product performance monitoring. This role is hands-on and impact-heavy: you''ll be expected to not just build, but also identify opportunities to improve architecture, fix inefficiencies, and scale data access across teams.
Youll apply modern data modeling practices to both structured and unstructured data, ensure strong governance and compliance, and support data use cases across analytics, customer reporting, and internal product insights. From anomaly detection systems and dashboard automation to shaping platform performance metrics - youll help set the standard for how we work with data. As our data ecosystem grows, your work will enable more informed decisions, faster iteration, and stronger outcomes across the business.
What Are We Looking For?
We are specifically looking for a Nerd that already has the following skills:
Technical expertise:
- Proven experience designing and implementing scalable data architectures in cloud environments
- Strong command of Spark / PySpark, Databricks, and Azure Data Services (EventHubs, EventGrid)
- Solid skills in SQL and Python for data manipulation and orchestration
- Experience integrating with BI tools such as Power BI
- Hands-on knowledge of data modeling, data governance, and both batch and real-time processing
- Familiarity with data security, compliance, reliability, and test-driven development
Bonus points for:
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and Kafka
- Exposure to data quality monitoring, anomaly detection, and alerting systems
- Experience working with customer-facing pipelines or product analytics
- Previous impact on platform or product development through data insights
- A background in Computer Science, Data Science, or Information Studies
