As Biotic Stress Management (BSM) Lab Assistant Technician, you will become a part of UBSs Plant Pathology team. Your home base will be our site in Tienen, which is also home to our leading sugar beet seed brand SESVanderHave. Are you a flexible, responsible teamplayer and can you switch between tasks easily? Your key responsibilities:
You will belong to our Plant Pathology team and support your colleagues who carry out specific tests on sugar beets and other relevant crops. These tests are performed in labs, in an indoor and outdoor environment, with the aim to identify resistance to a number of pests and diseases.
Your main task is to support the team working in the climate chambers, and sometimes in the greenhouse and on the field.
For the indoor tests, you for example fill pots, sow seeds, wash roots, take samples from plant material, prepare samples for analyses, etc. In the lab and greenhouse environment, there will be quite a lot of work on the preparation of soil samples for different tests. This includes drying, grinding and mixing soil and cleaning up the work areas.
For the outdoor tests, you might help with different kinds of practical work.
Your profile:
Work experience with plants is a big plus.
You are able to work both in a team and independently.
You know how to take responsibility.
It is very important to avoid contamination between different samples. Therefore, you must be able to work in a clean, careful and hygienic manner.
You are able to do routine work.
You are flexible and can go from one task to the other, quickly changing focus depending on where the needs are.
You are easy to work with and have strong social skills.
Being able to speak English is a must. Knowledge of Dutch and/or French is a plus.
Youre available to fill this position from 1 June 2025 until 31 December 2025. There may be an opportunity for a permanent position afterwards
