The Head of Data Engineering connects data suppliers (-engineers) to data users (-engineers). Data suppliers (data owners and stewards) provide clean data, meta- and masterdata to data engineers, who harmonize and connect data for data users such as CTO Energy, Quality, Supply Chain, Reliability, and Process.
As a Head of Data Engineering, you will be part of a dedicated Data Team, working closely with the Data Governance Officer, Data Architects, and industrial IT teams. You will be physically located in a manufacturing plant but work corporate, reporting to the global CDO to ensure standardization and governance.
Your role:
- Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers to design and implement scalable, high-performance data solutions.
- Define and enforce best practices for data engineering, ensuring standardization and governance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, IT architects, and governance teams to align data strategies with business objectives.
- Facilitate collaboration between data engineers, data scientists, business users, and IT teams.
- Technical Excellence:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines for optimal data integration, transformation, and storage.
- Drive efficiency in ETL/ELT processes, data lakehouse management, and virtualization techniques.
- Ensure data harmonization and standardization across sources for accurate reporting.
- Optimize Azure-based infrastructure (Databricks, Microsoft Data Fabric) for performance, security, and cost.
- Implement best practices for role-based access, cluster management, and deployment in Azure.
- Data Governance & Quality:
- Establish and enforce data quality standards and validation rules.
- Promote Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and version control systems (GIT) for deployments.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with data security policies and regulations.
Your profile:
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, IT, or Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record.
- Leadership experience managing data engineers.
- Proficiency in Azure, Databricks, and Microsoft Data Fabric.
- Knowledge of big data frameworks, distributed computing, and storage.
- Skills in SQL, Python, Spark; expertise in data modeling and optimization.
- Experience with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of French, Portuguese, or Dutch is a plus.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% abroad.
