Supervising AttorneyCommission on Immigration/IJPRE11918ExemptHiring Salary: $51,500-$56,600GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:The Supervising Children''s Project Attorney/Pro Bono Coordinator position is for a lawyer, preferably licensed in the state of Texas, with experience assisting immigrants and asylum seekers in their claims for relief before the immigration court and Department of Homeland Security agencies; experience working with children, preferably with detained immigrant children; and experience working with survivors of abuse or other trauma. The Supervising Children''s Project Attorney will supervise children''s project staff, currently nine people working in an office independent of ProBAR''s main office. The Supervising Children''s Project Attorney will also recruit, train, and provide hands-on mentorship to volunteer attorneys and law students assisting unaccompanied children in asylum, U and T visas, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and other claims for relief as appropriate. The Supervising Children''s Project Attorney will review the legal work of those she or he supervises, screen cases for representation, match clients with pro bono attorneys, organize CLE trainings for pro bono attorneys, and mentor pro bono attorneys working on behalf of ProBAR. She will also be responsible for convening weekly staff meetings, overseeing data collection, reporting to funders, and meeting with staff individually. A small percentage of the Supervising Children''s Project Attorney''s time will be used to provide direct legal services as needed, determined on a case-by-case basis.EDUCATION:Doctoral Degree (JD, PhD)EXPERIENCE:Necessary experience includes experience assisting immigrants and asylum seekers in their claims for relief before the immigration court and Department of Homeland Security agencies; experience working with children, preferably with detained immigrant children; and experience working with survivors of abuse or other trauma. Strong public speaking skills, organizational and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are essential, as well as experience conducting trainings and in mentorship of volunteer attorneys. Excellent client interviewing and cross-cultural communication skills as well as fluency in Spanish are preferred.
