Summary The R&D New Product Development Engineer is a position focused on new materials and processes to facilitate fast-paced growth initiatives of the Company. This position focuses on materials and processes related to cement-bonded, chemically bonded & phos bonded hard refractories used in the aluminum, power generation, chemical processing, and petroleum industries. Additionally, the R&D New Product Development Engineer will improve upon existing materials through innovative use of new and/or alternate raw materials. Duties and responsibilities Development of new materials and products in a growth-oriented, fast-paced development environment. Collaborate with a broad range of technical expertise throughout the company. Improve upon existing materials and products. Laboratory testing and evaluation of raw materials and refractory systems to ensure new products meet or exceed target characteristics. Failure analysis be a technical resource for material-related failures. Establish and maintain development project timelines and status updates. Provide technical support and assist with scale-up of new materials & processes into manufacturing. Qualify new and/or alternate raw materials for existing formulations. Participate in cross-functional initiatives as required. Technical resource to Sales, Engineering, and Operations. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications include: BS in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry. Proven track record in a fast-paced, innovative development environment. At least 2 years of experience in a related role within a manufacturing company. Proficient in MS Office applications & virtual meeting environments (Teams, Zoom, etc.). Proficient in laboratory testing methods and equipment. Experienced working in cross-functional and cross-site teams and working as an individual contributor. A background as a problem-solver. Preferred qualifications include: MS in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry. Proven track record in a fast-paced, innovative development environment. Demonstrated experience in hard refractories. Experience in DOE (Design of Experiments). Knowledge in data-driven process control or basic SPC discipline. Familiarity with data acquisition methods and software. Other Duties: All other duties as assigned.
