Job Description To strengthen our expertise in sustainable finance and address the rapidly evolving landscape, we are seeking a motivated and proactive Sustainable Finance Advisor to join our Brussels office. As a Sustainable Finance Advisor, you will play a key role in shaping the future of sustainable finance, particularly for European savings and retail banks, by staying ahead of regulatory, economic, and geopolitical developments. Key Responsibilities : Monitoring and Analysing EU Regulatory Developments: Keep up-to-date with EU regulations and initiatives in sustainable finance, including the EU Taxonomy, ESG risk management, sustainability disclosure requirements, and related prudential frameworks. Track key regulatory reforms and simplification initiatives, such as the European Commissions "Omnibus" proposals, designed to streamline and harmonize sustainability regulations across sectors. Provide insight into how changes in sustainable finance regulations intersect with broader economic policies, including defense and competitiveness, ensuring a holistic understanding of the policy landscape. Advising on Policy Advocacy and Representation : Draft and provide strategic advice on position papers, consultation responses, industry letters, and other advocacy materials to represent the interests of European savings and retail banks on sustainable finance matters. Lead advocacy efforts surrounding simplification and practical implementation of EU sustainability regulations, contributing to more accessible frameworks for institutions across Europe. Advise on the evolving role of sustainable finance in Europes green transition, incorporating perspectives on security, defense, and strategic competitiveness in the EU. Leadership of the Sustainable Finance Committee: Lead the Sustainable Finance Committee to keep ESBG members well-informed and actively engaged in ongoing regulatory changes and trends in sustainable finance. Coordinate discussions around the integration of sustainability into banks business models and risk management frameworks, with a focus on aligning financial strategies with the EUs broader policy objectives on climate and resilience. Engagement with Key Stakeholders: Represent WSBI members interests in discussions with EU and global banking authorities, policymakers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders on matters related to sustainable finance. Foster relationships with EU institutions and international organizations, contributing to the development of international regulatory standards and agreements on sustainable finance. Navigate complex intersections between sustainability, defense, and competitiveness, ensuring alignment of financial industry interests with EU priorities for economic resilience and strategic autonomy. Organising Events and Promoting Dialogue: Organise and facilitate high-level events such as webinars, workshops, and conferences to promote dialogue on sustainable finance and share best practices for implementation among banking institutions. Ensure that WSBI members and managers are well-equipped to handle the operational and strategic challenges arising from new sustainability policies and regulations, promoting knowledge exchange and capacity building across the industry. Strategic Advising on Sustainability Integration: Provide strategic advice to members and management on the integration of sustainability factors into banking operations, including risk management, lending practices, and investment strategies. Assist members in understanding and preparing for upcoming sustainability-related disclosures and compliance measures, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Green Deal. Desired Skills and Experience: Strong knowledge of EU sustainable finance regulations, policies, and the broader economic and geopolitical landscape. Experience in policy analysis and advocacy, particularly in the financial services or sustainability sectors. Familiarity with recent EU initiatives aimed at regulatory simplification and integration of defense, competitiveness, and sustainability.
