Your role

The position is linked to the Interdisciplinary Research Group in Socio-technical Cybersecurity (IRiSC-https://irisc-lab.uni.lu/).

Funded by the Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, the project PSYBER - Assessing Cybersecurity Preparedness will be executed closely with Prof. Marcus Vlp (Robustness and Resilience in Computing), Prof. Pedro Cardoso-Leite (Faculty of Social Science, Cognitive Science and Assessment), the Luxembourg House of Cybersecurity, the National Cybersecurity Agency. The three groups have established an exciting interdisciplinary environment.

Cybersecurity is vital for democracy, for people''s safety and the proper functioning of public (e.g., hospitals) and private institutions (e.g., banks). Effective cybersecurity requires expertise both in social and in technical domains as cyberattacks target not only computers (e.g., malware) but also people (e.g., phishing). Furthermore, cybersecurity in organizations involves a team of experts who need to coordinate to effectively prevent, protect and respond to cyberattacks. The goal of this interdisciplinary project is to study, measure and improve cybersecurity teams'' preparedness and resilience to different forms of cyberattacks. The project will develop and scientifically test cyber range and cyber war exercises for teams, develop metrics to objectively quantify cybersecurity preparedness levels, and explore innovative way to improve preparedness (e.g., via game-based training interventions using AR/VR).

The candidate will have the opportunity to develop their research project and to engage in interdisciplinary scientific work with the community of researchers of the University.

Your profile

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in socio-technical threats and attacks, deception and social engineering, and security and cybersecurity metrics analysis (qualitative and quantitative). With a high interest in user-centered security, human factors in security, human computer-interaction or UX.
