The Financial Controller for our business based in Lagos will oversee the financials of multiple legal entities owned by ECOM Nigeria. The role will manage robust accounting processes and controls that lead to the delivery of timely and accurate financial reports for all businesses in Nigeria. Additionally, the role involves coaching and mentoring the Accounting team.
Key Responsibilities include :
- Supervise all accounting for Ecom Nigeria (all legal entities)
- Supervise monthly cutoff / intercompany / valuation / close process
- Ensure adequacy of provisions and accruals
- Produce management accounting analysis for all businesses
- Oversee Cognos input for all Ecom Companies in Nigeria
- Manage annual audit and all statutory reporting; manage ICS
- Handle contracts and forward books
- Prepare / review all commodity forward books
- Produce timely and accurate financial reports
- Analyze reserves vs actual costs
- Run tax planning and compliance for Ecom Nigeria with the Tax team, including corporation tax, VAT, and other applicable taxes
- Manage government compliance and legal issues, liaising with lawyers as needed
- Treasury responsibilities including overseeing payment / receipts processes
- Work with Treasury to manage liquidity and develop local bank relationships
- Provide backup to product controllers for origin funding requests
- Oversee credit control, including counterparty risk process and weekly credit control activities for all companies
- Manage supplier advances with commodity teams
- Oversee overhead control and analysis for all Ecom Nigeria companies (PC and shared service)
- Coordinate and consolidate all annual budgets and forecasts
- Maintain an efficient system of accounting records
- Improve controls and budgets to mitigate risks
- Enhance the accuracy of financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Lead, coach, and mentor the finance team
- Manage activities related to process improvements and timely reporting, developing systems aligned with company objectives
Qualifications / Requirements
- Advanced degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Minimum of 7 years relevant professional experience, preferably in commodity, agricultural, trading, or food & beverage sectors
- Thorough understanding of business, financial, and accounting principles
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with advanced knowledge of Excel & PowerPoint
- Knowledge of SAGE ERP is an advantage
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with employees and managers
- Ability to work in a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment and meet deadlines
- Experience in Nigeria or West Africa is a major plus
