Functions :
Credit Policy & Approval Strategy
- Develop and continuously optimize credit approval strategies and decisioning frameworks (e.g., scorecards, segmentation, rules engines).
- Set and refine credit limits and exposure policies tailored to various customer segments.
- Oversee underwriting standards to balance risk and growth objectives.
Portfolio Risk Management
- Monitor and analyze portfolio performance metrics (delinquency, loss rates, vintage curves, etc.).
- Develop (create requirements) and maintain robust risk dashboards, reporting, and early warning systems.
- Identify trends, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Model & Data Strategy
- Collaborate with data science to enhance risk models (e.g., credit scoring).
- Leverage internal and external data sources to improve predictive accuracy and customer insights.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure alignment of risk policies with regulatory requirements and internal risk appetite.
- Support audit, compliance, and external regulatory interactions as needed.
- Create and maintain thorough documentation of all credit policies and procedures.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a small high-performing risk team.
- Work cross-functionally with product, marketing, finance, analytics, collection and technology teams to align risk initiatives with business strategy.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and board-level stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors/Masters degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
Experience:
- Solid experience in credit risk management, preferably within fintech, consumer lending, or payday loan businesses. Candidates coming from banking sector are considered too.
- Strong knowledge of credit policy development, portfolio analytics, and risk systems.
- Proven experience with decision engines, scoring models, and credit bureau data.
- Must have a knowledge of SQL and Excel (pivot tables). Experience with Python or R would be nice to have as well although not necessary
