Position Overview:
Principle Structural Engineering (Topsides) performs a crucial role in the offshore oil and gas industry, focusing specifically on the topside structures of offshore platforms, such as FPSO and FLNG facilities. This position should have expertise in Topsides structural engineering in the Oil & Gas industry and possess the ability to proactively and creatively provide solutions to a variety of structural design challenges. This role may require frequent travel to the US, Europe, and Asia.
The ideal candidate of the position will have a strong background in Offshore Oil & Gas Industry, be an expert in Topsides Structural Engineering, and provide strategic focus in the Topsides Concept Engineering for Conceptual/pre-FEED/FEED/EPC(I) projects being bid in the offshore area. This will include FPSO or FLNG facilities as well as other Fixed and Floating platforms/facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed structural designs for topside components, ensuring they meet industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.
- Perform structural analysis using software tools to assess the integrity and stability of topside structures under various loading conditions (e.g., wind, wave, seismic).
- To identify and write specifications for the routine structural aspects of the Hanwha Ocean''s products
- Design for weight optimization, cost efficiency, and ease of fabrication and installation.
- Lead and manage structural engineering studies and projects, coordinating as required - with other engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, piping).
- Conduct technical reviews and audits of design deliverables and calculations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., API, ISO, ABS, DNV).
- Work closely with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.
- Participate in design reviews, hazard identification (HAZID) studies, and risk assessments.
- To answer general queries arising from clients, contractors or internal Company departments on structural aspects of the system design.
- To prepare formal responses to comments from classification societies and clients on specifications and drawings.
- Coordinate with fabrication and installation teams to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth execution of projects.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports, design calculations, and technical specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, decisions, and approvals.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with project requirements and quality management systems.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Prepare project schedules, budgets, and progress reports.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Master degree in Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Civil or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is a plus. Membership in relevant professional organizations (e.g., ASCE, SNAME) is advantageous.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in structural engineering, with significant experience in offshore topside design.
- Extensive knowledge of structural engineering practices, principles, industry codes and standards (e.g., API, ISO, ABS, DNV) related to offshore engineering and topside structures.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SACS, STAAD.Pro, ANSYS).
- Extensive knowledge of structural engineering practices, principles, industry codes and standards - as well as an understanding of scientific methods of problem-solving.
