Job Description - Fishery Officer (Aquatic Food Value Chains) (2501080)Job PostingDate: 18/Apr/2025Closure Date11/May/2025, 9:59:00 PMOrganizational Unit: NFIJob TypeStaff positionType of Requisition: Professional ProjectPrimary LocationItaly-RomeDuration: Fixed-term: one year with possibility of extensionPost Number: 2010678CCOG Code: 1H05IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please note that Closure Date and Time displayed above are based on date and time settings of your personal device.FAO is committed to achieving workforce diversity in terms of gender, nationality, background and culture.Qualified female applicants, qualified nationals of non-and under-represented Members and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.Everyone who works for FAO is required to adhere to the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct, and to uphold FAO''s values.FAOs commitment to environmental sustainability is integral to our strategic objectives and operations.The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.Organizational SettingThe FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) is responsible for the economic, social, institutional, governance and policy aspects of FAO''s activities related to fisheries and aquaculture and their development.Reporting LinesThe Fishery Officer (Aquatic Food Value Chains) reports to the Senior Fishery Officer, Value Chain Development Team (NFIMV).Technical FocusAquatic food value chains analysis, market access facilitation, sustainable aquatic food production and consumption promotion, project management and advisory services to Member Nations on aquatic food value chain improvements.Key ResultsResearch, technical analysis and project related services to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services.Key FunctionsResearches, analyses and provides access to fisheries and aquaculture technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related data.Produces a variety of technical data, statistics, information and reports.Provides technical, statistical, and/or analytical services on various studies, projects and initiatives.Participates in the development of improved/updated technical, statistical and/or analytical tools.Participates in multidisciplinary teams and/or leads working groups/teams.Collaborates in capacity development activities within Members.Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences.Supports resource mobilization activities in accordance with the FAO Strategic Framework.Specific FunctionsCoordinates operational and technical support to implement the GCP/GLO/1321/ROK project focused on sustainable aquatic food value chain development in Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCS).Supports the development, revision and implementation of the appropriate methodological guide for value chain analysis.Assists decision making regarding value chain improvement solutions selection and implementation.Facilitates the establishment of sustainable multi-stakeholder platforms for aquatic food value chain development.Develops and implements policy guidelines and outputs based on the project results.Supports the development and dissemination of information products to improve aquatic food value chain efficiency.Contributes to the development of new aquatic food value chain development project proposals.Participates in the recruitment of consultants and procurement of services.Represents the project in international meetings and in high-level regional and national meetings.Performs other related duties, as required.CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWINGAdvanced university degree in agricultural/fishery economics, food science/technology, business administration or other fields relevant to food value chains.Five years of relevant experience in food value chain development and related fields.Working knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language.Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building effective relationships, Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement.Technical/Functional SkillsWork experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions.Experience in value added aquatic food products is highly desirable.Extent and relevance of experience in the field of aquatic food value chains and sustainability policies.Depth of familiarity with fisheries sector in developing countries.Extent and relevance of knowledge of food value chains, sustainable seafood products and policies.Extent and relevance of experience in the planning and implementation of projects related to fo
