Senior Mechanical and Thermal Engineer Space Sector
Location: Paris, France (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: 70,000 80,000 + Benefits
Introduction:
A pioneering company at the forefront of space propulsion technology is seeking an experienced Mechanical and Thermal Engineer to lead the design and validation of mechanical and thermal systems for next-generation ion thrusters. This is a rare opportunity to join a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment developing a disruptive solution for small satellite propulsion.
The Opportunity:
Youll play a critical role in a high-impact space program, working hands-on with a tight-knit team of engineers. Youll take full ownership of mechanical and thermal architecture, drive technical decisions, and lead a small team of engineers in turning groundbreaking research into space-ready hardware. The role includes end-to-end responsibility, from concept design to in-orbit readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define mechanical and thermal architectures for ion thruster systems.
- Conduct and supervise mechanical and thermal simulations (FEA, heat transfer, vibration).
- Select materials and solutions suited for space environments (vacuum, radiation, vibration).
- Oversee CAD design, technical drawings, and manufacturing activities.
- Manage supplier relationships and prototype builds.
- Lead the mechanical/thermal team, mentor engineers, and serve as the technical authority.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation, including test reports and justification files.
- Coordinate assembly, integration, and environmental testing (thermal/vacuum/vibe).
- Contribute to project milestones such as PDRs, CDRs, and TRRs.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Masters or PhD in Mechanical, Thermal, or Aerospace Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical and thermal systems, ideally within the space industry.
- Strong knowledge of CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA) and FEA/simulation software (ANSYS, Abaqus).
- Familiarity with ECSS or NASA standards and environmental test campaigns.
- Proven ability to lead technically, communicate clearly, and mentor junior engineers.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in agile or start-up environments.
- Knowledge of ion propulsion or satellite subsystem integration.
Eligibility:
Applicants must have the right to work in the EU and be willing to work full-time on-site in Paris.
