Job Title: Freelance Data Architect Location: Brussels, Belgium (Remote flexibility available) Job Type: Freelance / Contract Duration: 6+ months (with possibility of extension) About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and innovative Freelance Data Architect to join our client in Brussels. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing data architecture that aligns with business requirements and supports scalable data solutions. You will collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and other teams to ensure that data is structured, optimized, and easily accessible across various platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale data initiatives and help drive data strategy. The position offers flexibility for remote work, but a presence in Brussels is expected for team collaboration and key project milestones. Key Responsibilities: Design and implement scalable and efficient data architectures, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. Develop and maintain data models, data warehouses, and databases to support data-driven applications and decision-making. Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into robust data solutions. Create and manage data integration pipelines to ensure smooth data flow across various systems and platforms. Define best practices for data governance, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with regulations (e.g., GDPR). Collaborate with data engineers to optimize data processing workflows and maintain data pipelines. Oversee the implementation of cloud-based data infrastructure and ensure optimal performance on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Establish and enforce data standards, policies, and procedures to ensure high-quality and consistent data management. Provide technical leadership and guidance on data architecture-related topics to team members and stakeholders. Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in data architecture, cloud technologies, and emerging tools. Key Requirements: Proven experience (5+ years) as a Data Architect or in a similar role focused on designing data architectures and systems. Expertise in data modeling, database design, and data warehousing technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc.). Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-based data storage and processing solutions. Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with ETL/ELT processes and data integration tools. Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or similar. Knowledge of data governance, security practices, and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design solutions for complex data challenges. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Nice to Have: Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and distributed data storage systems. Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka). Expertise in data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). Knowledge of machine learning models and integrating them into data systems.
