Laboratory Supervisor RD, Fermentation-Based Oils An early-stage biotechnology company is developing novel, microbe-based oils and fats using food system by-products. These ingredients are designed to replace conventional plant-based oils across various industries while contributing to reduced environmental impact. Founded in 2021, the company focuses on creating scalable, circular production methods that align with sustainability goals - aiming to lower emissions, conserve natural resources, and support more resilient supply chains. As part of their growth, we are now seeking a Laboratory Supervisor/Manager. About the Role In this role, you will lead the daily operations of our RD lab. This role blends hands-on lab work with team leadership. Youll guide Laboratory Technicians, ensure safety and efficiency in lab workflows, and uphold high standards in experimental execution and reporting. What Youll Be Doing Team Leadership Supervise the day-to-day activities of Laboratory Technicians to ensure safe, timely, and complete execution of experiments Provide coaching, mentoring, and ongoing support to help team members grow Lead daily lab meetings and coordinate weekly lab schedules in collaboration with the RD team Lab Operations: Ensure accurate, compliant execution of experiments and internal analyses Oversee use, calibration, and troubleshooting of lab equipment Manage inventory of supplies, reagents, and consumables Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient lab environment in line with internal protocols and external regulations Reporting Collaboration: Ensure that all experimental and analytical results are clearly documented and shared with the RD team Work closely with scientists and the Head of RD to align on lab priorities and workflows Help develop and refine standardized operating procedures (SOPs) as the company grows About You: You are detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about sustainability and biotechnology. You enjoy working in collaborative environments and take pride in running a high-performing lab team. Youre comfortable working independently and adapting to the needs of a dynamic start-up. Qualifications: HLO or BSc in Laboratory Technology or a related scientific field 10+ years of practical laboratory experience, including 5+ years in a senior or supervisory role Strong understanding of lab techniques, safety practices, and quality systems Experience in start-up or fast-paced RD environments is a strong plus Fluent in both Dutch and English (written and spoken mandatory) Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills Comfortable working in a flexible, evolving setting
