About the Company:
Sagan represents a fast-growing SaaS startup seeking a highly skilled Accounting Manager to join a lean, hands-on finance function. This role requires someone who can independently execute key accounting processes, drive efficiency, and manage financial operations in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Position Overview:
This is a technical and execution-focused role that requires strong accounting expertise and the ability to thrive in a startup setting. As the Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for critical financial processes, including revenue recognition, month-end close, and multi-entity accounting. Given the startup environment, the ideal candidate must be comfortable handling both strategic and day-to-day financial tasks with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Execution & Improvement:
- Manage accounting processes across multiple entities, ensuring GAAP compliance.
- Maintain month-end checklists, recurring journal entries, Excel subledgers, and audit trails.
- Apply SaaS-specific revenue recognition standards for subscriptions, one-time services, and multi-year contracts.
- Utilize modern accounting software to manage multi-entity operations, consolidations, and reporting.
- Perform routine data uploads and system reconciliations to maintain financial accuracy.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Maintain a proactive approach to transaction recording to keep a near-close state.
Month-End Close Execution:
- Fully own and complete the month-end close within 5 business days.
- Prepare journal entries (accruals, prepaids, allocations) and execute multi-entity consolidations.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations, conduct flux analysis, and prepare financial statements.
- Ensure timely reconciliation and reporting of all financial data, including revenue recognition schedules.
Accounts Receivable & Payable Management:
- Manage the AR cycle: issue invoices, post payments, record cash receipts, and oversee collections.
- Manage the AP cycle: process invoices, execute weekly payments, and match invoices to POs.
- Maintain customer and vendor records, including tax forms and payment terms.
Banking & Credit Cards:
- Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts within 3 business days of month-end.
- Monitor daily cash balances and record intercompany transactions.
- Record bank and credit card transactions with proper categorization.
Qualifications:
- Must-have: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in startups and 2+ years in SaaS.
- Must-have: Prior experience working for a U.S.-based company.
- Bachelor''s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, multi-entity consolidations, and ASC 606.
- Advanced English fluency, including the ability to interpret contracts.
- Proven ability to work independently and adapt in a rapidly changing startup environment.
- Strong Excel skills (xLookup, PivotTables, Logic Statements, Data Manipulation).
- Enthusiasm for automation and process improvement.
- High attention to detail and strong ethical standards.
Nice-to-Haves:
- CPA or Chartered Accountant designation.
- Experience implementing new accounting systems or process automation.
