We deliver 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water per day to 8.5 million New York City residents and more than 1 million people in Upstate New York, and we collect and treat an average of 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day.The Bureau of Water Supply seeks to hire a Laboratory Helper Level II for a position in Distribution Water Quality Operations Distribution Laboratory located in Queens, New York. This position is vital to laboratory operations as it provides essential support for sample processing and analysis. Under the supervision of the Distribution Laboratorys microbiology section supervisor, with some discretion for independent action, the Lab Helper will assist in the Distribution Laboratorys chemistry washroom and microbiology media preparation room. The candidate will assist with the washing of laboratory glassware by machine and by hand; the sterilization of biological waste and sampling processing materials using autoclaves; the cleaning of tables and other working surfaces; sample delivery; and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including autoclaves, washers, and distilled water systems.
