As a Chief Editor at Nature Communications , you will be responsible for the quality, growth and development of the journal, and for leading a team of professional Editors. You will oversee a core portion of the journals scope, building a strong editorial team that is focused on attracting and publishing high quality content and providing excellent service to the research community. Alongside other Chief Editors you will collectively drive the evolution of the journal by developing and delivering initiatives that address the needs of researchers and reinforce the value of Nature Communications as a premier publishing destination. This role can be located in our Berlin, London, Madrid, Milan or New York offices on a hybrid working model. The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis. Role responsibilities: Develop and deliver content strategies, identifying growth opportunities and building business cases based on market opportunities Understand business objectives and translate these into journal goals, priorities and actions, reporting on targets Manage a team of Editors, including training and development, workload monitoring Ensure that direct reports embrace the journals values of high quality but accessible content, supporting them and holding them accountable Champion initiatives and projects that make Nature Communications a truly innovative publication and a force for good in the research community Represent Nature Communications internally and Nature Open Access externally Take responsibility for collective development of relevant Nature Communications in this field. Develop productive relationships and collaborations with the other journals within the Nature Portfolio. Experience, Skills & Qualifications: Solid editorial experience is required, with demonstrated knowledge of processes and ethics in academic publishing A PhD (or equivalent) in any area of public and/or global health, or epidemiology. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken). Effective people management skills with the ability to lead, inspire, challenge and build a team A creative approach to strategic planning and problem-solving The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of these disciplines. Positive ability to develop long-term professional relationships with key members of the scientific community.
