AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEER - WEST FLANDERS (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automotive Engineer with a strong focus on motor control systems to join our innovative engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and integration of advanced electronic hardware and embedded systems that control electric motors in automotive applications such as electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
You will take ownership of motor control electronics including power electronics interfaces, sensor integration (e.g., Hall sensors, encoders, resolvers), and embedded control algorithms implemented on microcontrollers or DSPs.
Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring precise, efficient, and reliable motor operation, optimizing performance while meeting automotive industry standards for safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and environmental robustness.
Collaborating closely with software developers, system architects, mechanical engineers, and testing teams, you will work throughout the full product lifecycle - from initial design and simulation to prototype testing, validation, and production support.
Your contributions will directly impact the development of next-generation electric powertrains and electrified mobility systems, supporting the automotive industry''s transition to cleaner, smarter transportation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop electronic hardware for motor control systems, including inverter interfaces, gate driver circuits, and sensor conditioning.
- Collaborate in the selection and integration of power semiconductors (IGBT, MOSFET, SiC, GaN) and passive components for motor drives.
- Work closely with embedded software engineers to implement and optimize motor control algorithms (field-oriented control, sensorless control, torque/speed control).
- Design and validate PCB layouts for motor control boards, considering EMI/EMC requirements and thermal management.
- Perform detailed testing, characterization, and validation of motor control electronics in lab and vehicle environments.
- Support functional safety and reliability activities (ISO 26262) related to motor control hardware.
- Integrate communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) for motor controller diagnostics and vehicle network interfacing.
- Participate in system-level integration, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of motor control electronics.
- Document hardware designs, test procedures, and validation reports according to automotive standards.
- Liaise with manufacturing and quality teams to support production readiness and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in automotive electronics design, specifically motor control systems preferred.
- Strong understanding of motor control principles, including brushless DC (BLDC), permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), and induction motors.
- Hands-on experience with power electronics design, PCB layout, and component selection.
- Familiarity with embedded control platforms (microcontrollers, DSPs) and real-time motor control algorithm implementation.
- Knowledge of automotive communication standards (CAN, LIN) and diagnostic protocols.
- Experience with automotive standards and compliance (ISO 26262, AEC-Q100, EMI/EMC testing).
- Proficiency in simulation and design tools (MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, PLECS, Altium).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
The Offer:
- A permanent, full-time employment contract
- A salary & benefits package commensurate with experience
