The Medical Physics Section at the University of Rome Tor Vergata invites applications for PhD positions within the Doctoral Programme in Medical-Surgical Biotechnologies and Translational Medicine (curriculum: Medical Physics). We are looking for highly motivated candidates with backgrounds in physics, engineering, biotechnology, or related disciplines who are eager to advance state-of-the-art technologies for investigating and treating the brain.
Possible research directions (non-exhaustive list):
AI for brain decoding from fMRI, EEG and multimodal data
Generative-AI-driven molecular design for innovative drug discovery
Bio-inspired computing and neuromorphic algorithms
Self--supervised learning for brain data
Nanotechnologies for neuromodulation and targeted CNS drug delivery
Focused ultrasound (FUS) for non-invasive delivery of therapeutics across the bloodbrain barrier
Next-generation neuromodulation (nano-invasive, ultrasound-based and hybrid approaches)
Structural functional MRI in human and animal models of neurological disease
Machine-learning pipelines for neuro-oncology and neurodegenerative imaging
Pharmacokinetic modelling of dynamic PET and MRI data
Projects are carried out in collaboration with leading European and international research centers, offering a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment.
